Why component-level

The asset tells you where. The component tells you what.

A ticket gate is a gate motor, a card reader, a display panel, and a safety sensor. Component-level knowledge usually lives in one senior technician's head — which display panel is in which kiosk, which parts were swapped last quarter, which spares are on the shelf. None of it written down, all of it lost when that person is on holiday.

  • What to fix— the exact part, its serial, and what it's been through, not "the gate is broken"
  • What to order — part number and supplier on the record, so procurement buys the right replacement
  • Failure patterns — see which part model keeps dying, and in which asset
