Why teams move off SharePoint

SharePoint works for some teams. Here’s what usually pushes people to switch.

!

Lists aren’t a maintenance system

SharePoint lists can store an asset register, but they can’t schedule preventive maintenance, chase compliance deadlines or run a proper work-order lifecycle.

!

No automation or reminders

Keeping a SharePoint asset list current is manual. Nothing tells you an inspection is due or a certificate is about to lapse.

!

Clunky for field teams

Updating SharePoint from a phone on the shop floor or out in the field is awkward at best. Adoption suffers and the data goes stale.

!

Reporting is hard

Getting MTTR, asset health or cost analysis out of SharePoint means exporting to Excel and building it yourself, every time.

How the migration works

Four steps. You do the first one; we do the rest.

1

Send us your export

Hand us a CSV, a database backup, an API key, or a read-only login — whatever you have. No clean-up required on your end.

2

We map every field

Assets, work orders, PM schedules, history, attachments, users and roles — each mapped into AssetOS. We dedupe and tidy as we go.

3

You review a staging workspace

Before anything goes live, you get a private workspace loaded with your data. Nothing is final until you sign off on it.

4

Go live on an annual plan

When you’re happy, we flip it live. The migration is included free with any annual plan. Keep your old system running in parallel as long as you like.

What we move

Everything you’ve built up in SharePoint comes with you — not just the asset list.

Asset registers and asset hierarchies
Open and historical work orders
Preventive maintenance schedules
Attachments, photos, manuals and certificates
Custom fields and categories
Users, teams and role-based permissions
Locations, sites and asset groupings
Data clean-up and de-duplication
Specific to SharePoint
  • SharePoint list items exported to CSV/Excel
  • List columns and metadata mapped to AssetOS fields
  • Document library files attached to the right assets
  • Choice / lookup columns mapped to categories
  • Versioned records consolidated into current data plus history

We’ve done this before

We’ve migrated maintenance and asset data out of these systems and into AssetOS. Yours is unlikely to surprise us.

No bridges burned

Switching feels risky. We take the risk off the table.

Review before go-live

You see your data in a staging workspace and sign off before anything becomes your live system.

Run in parallel

Keep your old system running alongside AssetOS for as long as you need. No hard cut-over.

Never locked in

One-click export, any time. We moved you in; we’ll never hold your data hostage to keep you.

Frequently asked questions

How do you migrate from SharePoint?

We work from list exports (CSV/Excel) and your document libraries. List columns become AssetOS fields, choice columns become categories, and library files get attached to the matching assets — so your structure carries over, not just raw rows.

Can you bring across the files in our document libraries?

Where files are tied to assets — manuals, certificates, photos — we attach them to the right asset in AssetOS so they’re available everywhere that asset appears.

We use SharePoint for everything. Do we have to stop?

No. AssetOS handles the asset and maintenance side; keep SharePoint for general documents and collaboration if you like. Many teams use both, and AssetOS integrates via API.

What does the migration cost?

It’s free with any annual AssetOS plan. We scope your lists and libraries first and confirm what’s covered before you commit.

Will we lose anything in the move?

You review everything in a staging workspace before go-live and flag anything missing. AssetOS also supports one-click export, so you keep full control of your data.
